travel nurse threatened with abandonment

I have worked for an agency for 2 months and already gotten grief. I was called on Tuesday to work at a psych facility for Sunday 7-3. I have worked this facility 3 times on the same section and felt comfortable only on that section. The others were very bad from what the facility staff informed me. I asked my boss at the agency if it was on the same section and she put me on hold to call the facility scheduler. My boss came back and said yes so I accepted the assignment on the terms it was this section. I had on previous occasion said this and always been placed there. This is a large facility and sometimes without aides to help identify patients. No name bands were worn by patients either. I arrived at the facility at 0640 and went to my assigned station where I was not on the roster. I then called the on call nurse for that facility and stated I was at the facility and my name was not on the assigned section roster. She then stated she had moved me to another section and I informed her that my assignment with the facility scheduler was for this section only. She then stated it was in my best interest to not leave the facility. Her phone cut off during our conversation and I went outside the facility to call my boss and tell her the details and informed her I would not be staying at the facility. I then told the nurse on that section she could have the on call nurse call my boss. This all happened before my assigned shift and I had never been in the section of the facility she had changed me to. Later the on call nurse called my boss to state she would be turning me in for abandonment. What do ya think? My understanding is you first have to accept report and responsibility of the patients. Let me know. I will later report the agency and facility.

Re: travel nurse threatened with abandonment

If the facts you have given us are accurate you accepted no patient assignment and therefore cannot be accused of abandonment.

I went into the hospital once and was given "tasks" to do.. i.e. blood sugars, hang antibiotics, etc. I had no patient assignment.. I had an issue with one of the tasks assigned to me with the CN .. She didn't want to back down .. I hadn't even gone to the floor so I said I am going home. This is not abandonment I don't have a patient assignment ..End of story.

Re: BREAKING A CONTRACT

They may take you last pay check.. Read your contract. They may charge you for the remainder of your housing. I really don't know.

Why are you leaving? If you license is in jeopardy and your company hasn't bent over backwards to fix it then you have a legit reason to leave. If you just don't like the job seriously rethink your actions. It doesn't look good for the rest of us or you.. Your name may get around not to mention the company you are with now probably won't give you another position.
