Stanford Hospital in Palo Alto anyone?

I am starting my first travel nurse assignment @ Stanford Hospital in Palo Alto, california. I have always heard that Stanford hospital is a great hospital but I've never spoke with someone personally about how the hospital is. And how about the area? Does anyone know anything about the area? Is it fun? And the traffic? is there much traffic in this town? Any advise or info. would be great giving this is my first assignment.. Thanks a lot

Re: Stanford Hospital in Palo Alto anyone?

Sorry to admit, but Stanford Hospital basically sucks! I expected a lot because of the schools reputation but as a traveler, I was treated like crap! Most units (not all) are totally clicky with groups of nurse that parade around like Maddona's, always protecting each other, and screwing over the ones they don't like, especially travelers. They dumped the worst cases on my load, offered little help, actively looked for little errors, and were quick to report anything they found! I could not wait to leave this unit. Plus, if you work 12 days, they'll can float you 4 hours at a time to 3 units!! Yes! Can you imagine? The hospital itself is old and falling apart. Hardly a state of the art facility. Finally, they have the most complicated computer system that uses COWS (computers on wheels) that don't f***ing work half the time. You have to push these damn things everwhere, all the time...... just to pass meds! Their own staff and doctors hate the things and barely understand it themselves. Not a a great experience! On the bright side, the Bay area ROCKS! I've been here five years now, and it is truely the best place in California.
