| Re: Some advice for a newbie PLEASE! Hello Amanda!!! I accidentally found this "information-full" website. I am actually thinking of traveling. I do not have experience with it yet. I see your post here about you being happy with RN Network. May I know who your recruiter is? I might be asking a lot of questions from you after this. Please bear with me as I am new to this website. Thanks much. Sunday |

| I tend to trust written comments about companies rather than a rating system and even then I look for an overall theme. Most people useful reviews are negatives ones on companies or recruiters to avoid. You have to read between the lines to see if they are legitimate complaints or whining. We have many Travel Nurse Company reviews on Ultimate Nurse that includes ratings and comments. Having the right company is only part of the game. You must have a great recruiter as well and then appropriate research and negotiation skills. I've talked and dealt with numerous recruiters and companies so I could get you in touch with my favorites. Highway Hypodermics does have a good information on numerous companies about what benefits they have but still confirm them yourself because things change all the time. I deal with multiple great companies through a list of great recruiters but I did have to eliminate alot to get to where I am now. I encourage every Traveler to develop a list of recruiters they interact with well and then choose each assignment based on its own merits which may have a little to do with the company itself. You never have 100% faith in any company. Some are better than others for a fact but they all are in this business to make money and you just can't let your guard down. Soon as your recruiter starts becoming your best friend you start to lose your leverage. Not to say you can't be friendly with your recruiter. Travel Nurse Companies succeed by being competitive. They spend alot of money attracting many Nurses. If you don't take a job someone else will. The only advantages Nurses have in the Travel Nursing Biz is there are numerous companies competing against each other and there is a Nurse shortage. I read so many times people asking what is the best company to work for? I say Travelers need to ask the right questions first off such as: What are the top 20 companies (out of 350) who can get me high paying contracts, offer competitive benefits I want, Great Housing and have some reputation among nurses? OK ...once I get that list down now let me find the best recruiter for me in each one of those companies..... AND even then I'll still judge each offer on it's own merit and will have to do some negotiating and if an one those companies won't give in to a request I'll have a number of other offers waiting with the others. This is the reality with Traveling you'll simply never find one company and one recruiter that provides everything you need everytime. Yes many recruiters would love to have you believe this. I've had some higher paying assignments than others but I believe all the assignments I had so far were decent because I had a wider selection to choose from. Do your research in all the details but listen to your gut too. I've turned down assignments that I knew something was wrong but just couldn't put my finger on it. Something in the Recruiters voice or the Interviewing managers voice or how they answered my questions. I realize I may be sounding negative but I prefer to be an optimistic realist CJ www.TravelNurseToolbox.com |
