Shift Contract

I have a 13 week contract for 12 hour day/night rotation, and worked the 1st 4 weeks nights, the new schedule came out and again I'm on nights the next 4 weeks. My recruiter's comment that does not sound right. So I called the nurse manager to review the contract hours and the response was that nights was the only available hours..
umm, not happy that I was not even informed ahead.
I feel taken advantage of and what really does a contract stand for? Can I cancel if this continues my last 4 week assignment?
It just isn't right.

Any input is appreciated.

Re: Shift Contract

did you stipulate what shifts you were going to work in your contract agreement?

You have to be specific or you will leave yourself open to be taken advantage of.

You could get out of the contract, but depending on who the company is they may stick you with a bunch of fees for apartment, travel, etc. etc., and you likely won't get another job with that company again (not that you might even want to work for them again).

If you specified that you did not want to work nights then you have every right to be upset. If it was me, I certainly would.

Sometimes though, things just come down to a simple miscommunication.

Re: Shift Contract

Aaron is right- if the number of shifts on each rotation isn't specified, a day/night rotation usually means that they can either put you on days or nights- whatever their needs are. If you want to do a specific rotation, your contract needs to specify "will rotate shifts every month". If you're thinking about canceling, just make sure you read your contract thoroughly- canceling early could leave you responsible for paying housing fees, etc....
