Renown hospital in Reno, NV

Just finished contract there, horrible place, laid off 85 travels out of the blue, staff trying to get union going, and they dislike travelers but travelers account for nearly half of the staff. My interview the manager lied about everything and my company was in leaague with the hospital. Worst contract in my 7 yrs doing this kind of work. All I am saying is avoid Renown healthcare system treat you like crap! Also dont use Talemed travel nurse company>

Does anyone know about standard of care at this hospital? My brother committed suicide in the ER 3 weeks ago....how could this happen???

I'm sorry to hear about your brother, you certainly have my condolences. We cannot necessarily speculate as to the standard of care of this facility. However, this is something you can take up with the facility itself through the proper channels.

I remember reading a post on this site some time ago about Renown and how they changed their original hospital name to Renown to improve their image...and the nurse mentioned it was a lousy job.
I hope more nurses post on hospital reviews so we can all avoid a bad assignment.

Hi Richard,

The suicide of a loved one is a bone deep pain to try to go on living with. It doesn't go away and never makes sense. Please accept my heartfelt expression of support for you and sorrow for your loss. I've seen a lot of this and believe me when I tell you that the pain touches everyone, including the nurse.

I wish that we could help you answer questions about how your brother ended his life but we can't. What we can do is remember that your brother took his life and died in a hospital when each one of us goes off to work at our own jobs.

I'm glad that you contacted us and hope that you keep in touch. I would ask that you consider doing this one thing if you haven't done so already, contact a support group for the survivors of suicide victims. You're carrying a lot on your shoulders and these people know what that's like. Please don't try to do this alone.

ginna...My recruiter wanted to submit me to Renown hospital....I was wondering if you could tell me more about your experience, what floor you were on and just any other information you may have. Nevada sounded like it could be fun but i don't want to go to a place that is hostile...

Reknown is one of the worst hospitals I have ever worked at in my tens years. I workd on the tele floor but I have friends in Icu had same experiences. Staff not friendly to travelers, management always looking for ways to hang you so they can cancel your contract and not pay your bonuses. I went with talemed, they lied to me about facility. They send nearly 80% of all the traveLers there. It was a county hospital, that changed its name. My company knew that and during the interview the director of the floor lied about everything.Told me it was a true tele floor 4:1 ratio. We had pts that have been on that floor for over 3yrs! trached, tube feeding,contact iso for 6 mths at a time. I did not see one true tele pt, but did see alcohol and drug pts in 4 pts. That tele floor was dump floor. You don't want to go there period!
