Need Advice about Central Texas

Hello. I am a native West Texas but am wanting to work a travel assignment in either the DFW area (around Plano) or Austin. Can someone provide me with some advice about these hospitals and/or companies they used that were good/bad? Also, I would like to know more about Temple, TX (Scott and White). I am leery of HCA hospitals after a nightmarish assignment in Conroe, TX. I work ICU, CCU and sometimes ER.

Re: Need Advice about Central Texas

My advise is to stay away from any HCA hospital, especially in TX and LA, as they belong to the same group. I did a travel assignment with them and they were the worst hospital I've seen. (Kingwood Medical Center, Kingwood, TX just outside Houston) A man even died because they wouldn't give me a 1:1 for him. Fortunately, I had documented very well that I had asked the supervisor, then the floor supervisor, then the doctor. Unfortunately, a man is dead and didn't have to be. I hope his family sues the hospital. As for me, they threatened to blame the entire incident on me until they saw that I had charted EVERYTHING. Haven't heard from them since. Good Luck!

Re: Need Advice about Central Texas

I agree with the previous post. I am a first time traveller and on assignment at an HCA facility in the Fort Worth area and it totally sucks. It sucks not because of the patients, not because of being rotated to night shifts several times this schedule, not even because of an extremely complicated computerized system that requires you scan every pills, every flush syringe, every insulin bottle and every patient. It sucks because this floor is too cheap to use nurses aides. No techs, thats right. The RNs/LVNs do it all. ALl the call bells, toileting, and in the morning night shift gets to do am care (shower and dress) pt who cant walk or even toilet themselves without help.

So, don't take any HCA job. THis place is scarey and I hate it.
