Re: If traveling is so much fun? I'm start my first assignment next week. I found it quite easy to get into. All I did was start calling - but don't call too many at once because then they all start calling you. Licensure seems to be the biggest hurdle. But if you are willing to be flexible, the options seem endless. There is an online magazine that you can register with that sends your info to agencies of your choice. hope this helps.

Re: If traveling is so much fun? will I still be considered if I have not been practicing in high tech or skilled nursing in a while? I need some brushing up on some things. I have been a nurse off and on since 1977[font=Typewriter]Text[/f]

Re: If traveling is so much fun? I am interested in becoming a travel nurse but I have no idea where to start. there are so many companies out there. is it best to start out with a larger company or a smaller one? I am just wondering where you have the most negotiating power? just wondering if any seasoned pros have an ideas or suggestions for me, the beginner??

Re: If traveling is so much fun? Yes there are many companies out there. Look for the one that works more for the Nurse than the money. You need to be compatible with your recruiter. Don't be afraid to negotiate for what you want. Some larger companies may not be what you want starting out.Trinity Healthcare Staffing Group or On Assignment are two good places to start. If you want a larger company then O'Grady-Peyton International may be for you.You need to have all your papers together; nursing license, certifications, physical, test such as TB, hepatitis B etc. Fill out forms with more than one company could come in handy later. Hope this helps

Re: If traveling is so much fun? I have been researching for the better part of a year now. I plan on starting this fall. I have narrowed my search to 5 companies. Insurance (Health and Disability) is a big deal to me since I will be our sole support. I will be happy to share info if you wish.

Re: If traveling is so much fun? I'm not sure why no one is helping you. I'm currently in Waikiki, HI. I traveled here with American Mobile Healthcare. They are ok but I've found that other travelers from other companies sometimes have better benefits. Good Luck!

Re: If traveling is so much fun? I am filling out papers right now to work for Nationwide Nurses. It hasn't been too hard because they have separated the stuff I need to do into 3 packets, Red, White and Blue. I know if I had gotten all of the stuff at once, I may have been overwhelmed. Luckily I live in a compact state, so it won't be too hard to work elsewhere.

Re: If traveling is so much fun? A lot of companies offer very similiar "perks". Make a list of the absolute necessities for you and then see which company offers it. Apply to two or three companies, so you always have a foot in the door for places you want to go. It's pretty simple. While on assignments, talk to other travelers working there and compare notes. That's the best way to learn. Have fun
