How many agencies to sign up for?

I just lost my job last week after nine years and am trying to pick up a travel assignment asap. I am working with 2 local agencies, Axis and Expedient Medstaff right now but there are not a lot of opportunities in Ohio with them. I am applying for a MI license as well to open options but need income as soon as possible (my husband does not work).
What I'm asking is how many agencies should I apply to? I was looking at RN Network but don't know if these agencies look down on you if you work with several for assignments. Any advice for me?

Robin

Re: How many agencies to sign up for?

I'm signed on with 5 companies. I don't care what the companies think, one has to take care of themselves. Now, then,if a company asks if you are signed on with other companies, just ask them WHY they want to know. They sometimes say because they don't want the travler to be double submitted by other companies. Tell them not to worry. And make sure that does not happen because the hospital probably will not call you.
RN Network is good. Has decent amount of jobs. Will you be able to get a reference from the hospital?

Red face Re: How many agencies to sign up for?

Sorry to hear you lost your job Robin. Although home health and not travel agencies, I'm signed up with five agencies but only one has been giving me any work for going on a year. I am currently looking for a sixth agency and have decided to look for regular type employment because I can't make it sitting around waiting for an agency to call me. Good luck getting travel assignments.

Re: How many agencies to sign up for?

I am using former coworkers as references. I was told if they were charge nurses (we all took turns) it counted. I was able to resign before I was terminated so thats a plus, no unemployment though. Think I'll sign up with RN Network as well. That would give me 3 agencies right now.
I do have an interview Monday in Columbus for a clinic position, if that goes ok I'm good. If not...... It only been a week not working but I'm already getting scared!

Is the clinic position a travel assignment?
Alot of people are scared, it falls under the category of the UNKNOWN.
But be positive and make the best of it.

Re: How many agencies to sign up for?

Yes, it is a 13 wek travel assignment. The doctor's nurse is going on maternity leave and I would cover that. Interview tomorrow. Hope I do ok. Haven't had an interview in over 9 years!!
At this point I'll take almost anything just to get the money flow back. Going to be using my 401K until it is.
Any suggestions for the interview. Im really nervous. Hard to make a new start at 46!!

Forget your age, just focus on your nursing skills and abilities. No one cares about age, they only care about a good nurse.
Good Luck and just answer the interview questions best you can. Be confident and you'll get the job!!
Keep us posted.
