Is housing and the assignment close enough together to walk to?

Hi there,

I am itching to do travel assignments but have a couple of questions. I would not want to drive all over the country. I am guessing the travel agency pays for flights- right? Do they pay for my dog (40-50lbs) to travel with me too?

But the most important thing I want to know is if the housing is generally close enough to the assignment in order to walk? I don't really want to rent a car due to the expense.

Thank you! .... I have one more thread please read!

Kelly

It is in your best interest and convenience to have a car. I've never been able to walk to my travel jobs. Companies give you travel reimbursement to get to the assignment and they don't care how you get there or if you bring a dog. The dog expense is up to you and housing is more expensive w a dog. Usually, there is a pet deposit on Apt. and alot of people do travel with pets.

I have also never been close enough to any of my assignments to walk- always within a few miles, but not close enough to have a short walk. You will want a car. Flying is very stressful on dogs, as yours is too large to go in the cabin with you, so driving with your dog would be better for him/her.

As kdog said, companies will give you a set amount for travel expenses, so whether you spend that on airfare or gas is up to you. Any expenses related to your dog are your responsibility- including extra monthly pet rent, and pet security deposits.

Re: Is housing and the assignment close enough together to walk to?

Kelly,
Traveling with pets is extra work but its worth it. I travel full time with a 35 pound dog and a cat. The last company I was with paid for my air fare and rental car while on assignment. I was not close enough to walk to the hospital but probably could have biked it had it not been snowing. When flying I was responsible for paying the animal fee charge for the dog (90$) and the cat was my carry on luggage. The apartment complex charged a 250$(pretty standard rate) pet deposit which was taken out of my first paycheck. All together it was less then 500$ to have my pets with me. On my current assignment in Seattle I'm with a different company that gave me a flat rate for travel expenses when I started working. The pet deposit was the same and I pay 15$ a month in "pet rent" that is also taken out of my check. Its totally worth it to come home in the morning and have my pets here to greet me. Private message me for company details.

My current assignment is the first one I have ever had where the place I am staying is close enough to walk to. But I still wouldn't want to do it when it gets cold.
