? hours not guarenteed

was just submitted for a travel assignment and hours are not guarenteed( hope I spelled correctly)

What does this really mean?
The company said that the facility can cancel if the nurse is not needed......
Sounds Risky,
Any advice please.

Cool Re: ? hours not guarenteed

I thought that facilities cancel nurses all the time anyway. I guess in this case, they are being upfront about letting you know that you won't be getting a lot of hours. I wouldn't take this assignment if there is one with guaranteed hours. Traveling is not supposed to be a big ol' vacation at the expense of the traveler.

Re: ? hours not guarenteed

If the hours are not guaranteed, then why don't you do per diem instead? At least then if you start getting canceled alot, you can leave any time you want, and not hang around and wait on the end of your assignment while your not making any money.

Re: ? hours not guarenteed

Can't do per diem, job is in another state. I would have to sign on and orient, etc.
I know that guaranteed hours are more secure, of course, with low census the hospital can cancel at any time.
I've worked assignments that cancel their own staff to honor the travel contract for guranteed hours and that upsets the full time staff.
Well, I'll wait to get an interview 1st then ask the nurse manager the facts.
If you get cancelled shifts does the travler get charged housing fees???etc... probably
I don't like the sound of the whole thing.
thanks for responding
