How many of you take your family with you and homeschool your kids? Pros? Cons? I am considering it for the fall if everything works out with ex-hubby and the courts. Kids are girls ages 12 and 13 and seem to be excited. New great husband is stay at home dad and ready to hit the road too! Any comments welcome!!!
Hi. Do you currently live in Alabama? I am a new nurse with homeschool and travel plans for the fall as well. We live in Alabama and I have a five year old and a two mo. old. I am very nervous about traveling and homeschooling but ready to see the country. Good luck to you, we should keep in touch.
I think it's a good idea especially since the kids are excited.
I travel alone but met a travel nurse who has been traveling for 4 years with his wife and 4 children and they all love it.

Hi--I'm a travel nurse from Florida, the Destin area. I homeschool my son. Works well. Only glitch was once when I couldn't get online for awhile---his classes are all online. My problem has been my ex, he doesn't want him to be out of Florida........although he did sign a waiver....but could still cause me eventually to return and stay at a permanent job....although there are no jobs in that area
Wow how did you find online classes? My daughter would do well with that. I am nervous about homeschool because I don't know anyone who does it and the people I have talked to about it have been discouraging. We aren't leaving until May, but I was thinking of pulling her out of school next month and start homeschooling then so that we can get used to it. How do I find a list of what she should know for each grade? I am so afraid of missing something important. How hard is it to find your own housing for such a short amount of time? We are thinking about getting an RV.
An RV sounds like a good idea. you can taking the housing stipend and pay for whatever expenses monthly OR let the company get you a 2 bedroom, however, you will have to pay for th 2nd bedroom. Check online about home schooling programs.
I thought about getting an RV (you can take the interest on the payments off your tax as a second home), but my daughter did NOT want to be that close to me and her brother. I let my company furnish a furnished apt with utilities for me. It was too hard to negotiate a temporary place on my own, and then pay deposits, etc was a nightmare. I've had nice accomodations so far. I travel with my dog, also. So it has to be pet friendly.Originally Posted by pedsnrs1343
I use Florida Online, since my son stays with his father 1/2 the time, and my main home is in Fl. I don't know if Alabama offers something comparable, but you should check. Awesome program, everything is online, it takes you through the lessons and they stay in touch with the teachers by phone. Let me know what you find out-good luck!!
my DH is retired so he does the homeschooling. He got the same books my sone was using in Indiana and uses that along with some online stuff. It works out well for us since DH has time and my son is a really good student we just have to find other things for him to do to be around other kids
