Degree Confusion

I am trying to decide which accelerated program to go, and am wondering what the difference is in terms of degrees. One allows you to sit for the NCLEX-RN and have an RN certificate after 10 months, you then go directly into the Master's program. The other awards a BSN, but takes 2 1/2 years to complete before going on to the Master's component. Is there a benefit to having the BSN? Enough so to justify another year and a half of schooling? HELP!!! Thanks!

I'll skip my thoughts about people being able to become an RN after a mere ten months of nursing education. Personally, I would do the one that would help me reach my goal the quickest. If you can get a master's without obtaining a BSN, I would do that. I wouldn't spend all that extra time and money if it's not necessary.

I agree with smbrn of course! Which program is it that gets you the RN after 10 months and puts you in that fast track towards a Master's next? Definitely sounds like the best bet economically whichever it is so tell us about it please?

I think most jobs require a degree and not just a certificate to work as an RN-I could be wrong though. But if you plan to get your MSN anyway, why not the direct route. However, a BSN will take longer than a certificate, but that is probably time that it will take off towards the MSN. Good luck.

I guess it depends on your previous education and work experience. As far as I know there aren't any RN programs that last less than 12 months (second-degree accelerated BSN). Certificates take 2-3 years of LPN work in a hospital (someone correct me if I am wrong) and are being phased out. I would also like to know about any RN program that takes less than a year.
