Re: holding last paycheck and travel pay

hey maggie, has this company given you a good explanation as to why they are holding your last paycheck? that last paycheck is often the most important as it is the check that allows you to take a week or so off and get to your next assignment and settled in. holding that check is completely unacceptable!!! i am a seasoned, career traveler so please do keep me posted on this so i don't end up in the same situation down the road. i recently had a company pay my last check late - they went ahead and fedexed it to me a few days later but that did little to solve the bounced charges from my bills i had set up on automatic draft when the money did not hit my account on time through direct deposit. and when i tried to deposit the check at my bank the bank held it 7 days because it was an "out of state" check - so even though i received the check it was a good 10-12 days before i had access to that money. we don't usually have these problems as travelers with being able to set up direct deposit but when one check is for some reason late - especially the last check - it can create a problematic domino effect on your career (by slowing down your ability to get going to your next assignment) and with your finances in general. good luck in getting this resolved hon and let me know if i can do anything to help you out.

Federal Law states when you have finished a contract or leave a job the employer has 72 hours (business hours) to have a check delivered to you.

Been there I filed a complaint against an agency with the Hour and Wage Divission. They gave in.

Got resuts. Tell them you will file a claim with the hospital you worked at

Re: holding last paycheck and travel pay

I once had a check withheld and when I contacted the agency they told me they had paid me....Well It may have been an honest mistake but I had to educate them of the last day of my assignment which was after the last check I had received and then...They docked that check for $80 bucks saying I went over on the utility bill. I find that hard to believe because it was springtime in Calif. But what the heck are we suppossed to do? I asked for a copy of the utility bill and it never came...So needless to say I will work with a different agency next time!

Please document this in the Reviews section (see top bar) for Travel Companies and any details.

Also read your contract too. I've seen companies put stipulations in their contract with you for situations such as missed days or such.

Tell them you will follow up with the labor board and that you will inform other Travelers if they don't pay up and go up the chain of command within the company to the top. Be persistent.
Good Luck!

Let us know what happens....
