general question for travelers

This probably seems like a silly question but, what do travelers like most about travel nursing? I'm new to it and what I like most is the ability to do my mandatories online in about half the time it takes to go to work to do them as a permanent staffer and not having to deal with the politics of the units. I wish I had done this a long time ago. I love going to work, doing my stuff and then forgetting about it when I leave and have my days off. Any thoughts? I know seeing new places is a great opportunity. I can't really speak to that as I have three school aged children and have so far confined myself to local travel.

Re: general question for travelers

I like traveling a lot. I get mini vacations during my off days. If I hate a hospital, it eventually comes to an end and then never go back. I also review the hospital so other travelers can know what my experiences were. Check out travelnursingcentral.com

Re: general question for travelers

Well I know some people travel for money - which is fine some of the time, yes you will get great paying jobs here and there but don't get stuck on being a high dollar traveler - I like to travel for the sites and to be able to see places I normally wouldn't see even if it is a small town in NC or IA meeting new friends along the way is also a great reward and maybe we will cross paths later.

I have been traveling for quite some time, I know the bigger companies are not always good at getting back to you at least that is my experience. I have recently neen talking to a recruiter at RTG Medical and they have great locations across the US and are great with getting back to me on questions I have. I would be more then happy to give you her information, just email me and I can get that to you !!

Welcome to traveling and if you have anymore questions please let me know !! :star:

Re: general question for travelers

My girlfriend and I have been travelers for over two years, and the thing we like the most is the freedom of traveling across this country, seeing new places and meeting new people...we are finishing our latest assignment in Santa Fe, NM at St. Vinvents's and we have LOVED every minute here. We work ER and the people have been helpful, friendly and we love the place! This may all change soon however as it has been taken over by Christus...and they are cutting all travelors as of Nov. 2...the place is going to be ruined....but it all about the mighty dollar!

Thumbs up Re: general question for travelers

I think of my days off as a mini-vacations. And I like going to places I would not be able to go to if I didn't travel. It's like a working vacation. I also like to see how other hopitals operate and the different types of equipment they have. I like meeting different people and learning about their cultures. I don't miss the routine or the politics of a full-time job at the same holpital all the time. I think that alone is reason enough.
