The economy and travel nursing?

Well, I am just getting ready to take the plunge and begin travel nursing. Child has left home, have a small mortgage, otherwise no debt at all.I want to leave my boring Florida suburban life, but not sure where. Couldn't sell my house now even if I wanted to with the housing market. Seemed like traveling was the way to go. A year or two of checking things out, sell my house when the market gets better...Now all this...Suddenly leaving a job that pays close to $40/hr with differential, all the overtime paid at double time I can work, average benifits, I have a Monday-Friday 12 hour night/ICU position in a hopsital that panders to their nurses. It is a cancer center so we have no ER, which means we do not have the crazy fluctuations of endless admits at night..basically it is a cushie job??? Am I crazy to have second thoughts? How do you all think travelers will fare with the worsening economy. Is it a time to hunker down? Should I just take vacation time every 3 months and check out another part of the country?? Has anyone reconsidered traveling with the downturning economy, has anyone felt the travel industry change recently because of it? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Re: The economy and travel nursing?

You make a good living plus cushie job. You may not make your current amount but will have free health ins. day 1 and free housing or you can take the housing stipend. If you are bored you can go someplace new and exciting to sight see. I'm not too sure about the cushie part.
OR you can try 1 assignment and see how you like it,if not go back to your present job.
RE:economy, nurses are always in need. big market out there.
