Cable, Internet and Phone hookup

I recently started my first travel assignment and was wondering what everyone does for cable, internet and phone. I had comcast hook it up for me and the first month with installation fees cost me $248...this is ridiculous! I can't see paying that to start up service every three months when I go somewhere different. Any suggestions???

Working backwards.

I have a good cell phone. With Nationwide coverage. Verizon. 900 minutes is enough.

With my cell phone I also have a wireless card. With my card and cell phone I pay around $150. No hook up fees.

This may not be appealing to you but I haven't had any form of TV reception since May. Just didn't bother to have it hooked up.
Some times you can get lucky and find a 3 month special. But that usually entails a year's subscription.

Sometimes in the larger complex there may be an open wi-fi for everyone.

Good luck, but if you plan to travel for years the cell phone and wireless card will help with some expense. Besides with the wireless card you have internet service most times while you're on the road.

Re: Cable, Internet and Phone hookup

I've never paid an installation fee while traveling.
I call the cable company ahead of time and I've always received a special 3 month rate which includes FREE install. and about 30 to 39 per month for cable and high speed.

Next time Call ahead.

Yes, I agree- I have also never paid an install fee, and usually you can get some kind of deal, like free premium channels for the first few months.
