General Help and Direction for Nursing

    Hi all,

I am glad to find this site/forum as I have been looking around as to where and how to start my nursing career.

From your expperience, what is the best place to start?

    STNA? Associate Degree?

BTW, I already have a degree in Information Tech.

    Thank you in advance.

    First let me say, welcome.

You have to think about what you want, finances, suppport system, goals, and time frame for you and yours.

If you are positive you want nursing as your career and everything else mentioned above is not a hinderance, there is the BSN route. Here again, do what you feel is best for you.

I do, however, wish you much success in your endeavors.

    Hi

Nursenewbie....I am with you!!!! I am currently a med. secretary and have an associates in Science and IPS in med sec. processing and am thinking about changing slight paths and going into nursing. My biggest concern is finding a job after that is local for me. I want to find a great source first and do my homework. I will be interested in the responses this thread brings so I can gain information too. Best of luck to you.

Firstly let me thank MICU-RN for the great encourangement. Anyway, I had signed up for the STNA program as I think that will at least give me a good headstart into the field of nursing.

Dillon1, all I can say is you are in the right path since you are already in the medical/health science field. I suggest continue in your pursue for a career in nursing.

Re: General Help and Direction for Nursing

I am done with my STNA/CNA program. I am loving every moment of it.I am thinking of going further into getting my LPN or RN.

Have a question for all you nurses out there. I signed up for anatomy and physiology class at my local community college and the nursing program is so popular that I am on the waiting list. My question is can I do the anatomy and physiology somehow online or something as I tell you, whoever come up with the schedule for the college does not factor in people that have to work.... none of the segment will allow one to work the conventional 1st nor 2nd shift and still attend class. 10 in the morning or 2 in the afternoon??? common...

Any help or advice is very much appreciated.

There are many different programs out there to look at. Most have the same prereq's so I would start knocking those out of the way. You can take most if not all prereq's at a community college at a less costly rate than doing it at a university. Some CC's do offer a "two year" (more like three year) nursing program which allows you to sit for the RN (NCLEX) or getting a BSN at a univesity. Most magenment positions require a BSN.
