    Travel Assignment:-East or West Coast?

Narrowed my choices down to California or the Carolinas. Anybody worked in places like Modesto, San Jose, Charleston, Charlotte or Columbia? Little fearful of southern California as I don't speak Spanish (hello language line). Tried to find threads, but not seeing many specifics and few hospital reviews. Don't know the exact hospitals just the locale.

I have worked in Salisbury, NC (near Charlotte) as well as San Diego, CA- among other places... I liked San Diego better (and I don't speak Spanish either), only because Salisbury/Charlotte isn't anywhere near the beach (it's HOURS away)... and there was waaaaay more to do in San Diego.

Thanks, Amanda. For some reason with all the availability out there, my recruiter chose to only send me Modesto and San Jose as options. Hmmm...with all the availability out there why those? Something doesn't smell right. I'm rather wide open with a med surg offering.

The reason why your recruiter is pushing the places in Cali is probably a bonus for themself- for harder to fill hospitals due to not so great location.
I had this happen to me when there were numerous options in the state I wanted to go. So, I asked for a new recruiter.
    Don't settle.
There are alot of med-surg listings in Cali.
    Confront your recruiter.

I love NC and where I am on the coast BUT

CA generally has better pay rates and better staffing.

Also now in August it is getting HOT!! up to 100 and humid

Prime of Hurricane season is in effect as well.

I do love NC Beaches much more than CA though with then sand dunes and sea oats and warm water.

Watch out for rip tides though which drown people here every year right at my local beach.

Thanks everyone. Accepted a job in NC for what I consider really low pay, just to break into the traveling nurse field. Seeking advice for the next job.:26:
