Question Any advice would be nice

Hello all

I have enjoyed reading all of the posts about traveling nursing. For many years I have wanted to do it so finally I have come to the realization that this may be the right time for me to give it a try.

I was wondering if someone could be kind of enough to give me the real deal behind travel nursing. Is it all that it is cracked up to be? I have read the horror stories on this website and it is making my rethink my plan. But I am well aware that there will be bad stories..just like patients in the ICU...they claim that some patients do well after major surgery but I never see those people..I think it is an urban myth!! I just need someone to reassure me that there are good travel stories out there.

Could someone give honest, no holds bar opinions on whether travel nursing is something that I should give thought to.

Thanks
Angie

Re: Any advice would be nice

I think travel nursing works the best when one focuses on the excitement of going to new places, sightseeing, etc. For me, my most memorable travel was to Coral Gables Florida and going to South Beach Miami on days off. ( I'm from NY) So That was a great winter for me and the job was great too.
If you want to travel to make money that's fine too.
The main thing is to get a good recruiter and honest company and try to get as much information about the hospital. I've had a few terrible jobs and I refuse to live that again. So, I ask my recruiter to let me talk to a travel RN thats been at the facility and also check this website review section. I also interview the nurse manager and justask if the nurses there are friendly to travleers and the stress level on a scale 0-10. I let them know upfront that I can't handle high stress and confusion. And it has worked. Ok- where are you from and where do you want to go?

Re: Any advice would be nice

Thank you so much for your response!

I want to go everywhere! I love to travel so I am pretty much open. I really am interested in working in all of the major, noteworthy hospitals in the US if possible. I guess that I am just so comfortable where I am now that I am a little hesitant about trying something so drastically different.

The terrible stories that I have read on this website has definitely opened my eyes up so much that I am very worried about persuing, but I really want to try something differernt.
