Nursing school give you a basic training so to speak. You get a little bit of many different areas. You can't be a ICU nurse then the next day just step in and be a labor and delivery nurse or vice versa. You get on the job training and orientation to each area just like a mechanic that works on a compact car couldn't step up and work on a jet engine in a day.
Myself I started in Peds with part time surgical nursing then went to home health caring for pediatric and adults then went to labor and delivery and also had to learn operating and recovery room. I have ACLS certification but DO NOT put me in ICU or ER
