I haven't worked in NYC, but have head HORROR stories about very high/dangerous nurse to pt. ratios. Make sure you ask about ratios when you interview...
Has anyone traveled to NYC with another nurse and was able to get housing with the second bedroom. How much are stipends running? I really want to go in May and need tons of information on what to expect for a package from travel companies before i go. Any help would be great!!

Hi,
I've traveled to NYC twice now. My very first travel assignment was in 2004 at Beth israel on 16th st....horrible experience...worked you like a dog...floated to 9 different units while I was there. I'll never go back there again. In 2005, I worked at St Lukes hospital uptown...just as bad. I took the housing stipend then, it was about $2500/mon I think. Sounds pretty good but I sublet an apt the size of a dormroom for about $1800 a month.
It was fun being in the city, but work was way too stressfull. Btw, I worked on a m/s unit at St lukes...sometimes I'd get 9 pts at night if someone called out.
FYI, Ask for reimbursements for transportation fees, parking, etc. You can get back more than you think if you just nagotiate.

p21575,
I wish I had read your post before I signed on with Beth Israel. This is my first travel experience and possibly my last. It has been a horrible experience and its only been 2 weeks. I have worked on 3 different units with no experience. It is a very dirty and cheap hospital and would never ever be a patient here or recommend it to anyone.
Make sure you fill out a review of the hospital in our reviews section!
