Eastern New Mexico Medical Center in Roswell, Nex Mexico. There are very good reasons not to take an assignment in the operating rooms at this hospital. While I was there, and shortly thereafter, the Charge nurse quit working in the O.R., the Head nurse was canned and the coordinator quit after being given eight weeks to straighten up the place and could not deliver. Secondly, in thirtysix years of working the surgery, I have never seen such a high concentration of unhappy, mean and overly egotistical surgeons working in the same O.R. suite. Save yourself some nashing of teeth and pet abuse and stay clear of this facility.
Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa, is the other place I will never go back to because the problems in the operating rooms and PACU there will only get worse before they can ever get better because the causes are still very much present. There is little to no leadership in the operating rooms and the PACU has no supervisor at all. The O.R. supervisors are over PACU and none of them have any PACU experience. There are no certified PACU nurses and PACU is severly understaffed, even for with the two travel nurses that are there. All the call that can be dumped on the travel nurses is done so, to the point of abuse, and is very unfair. In PACU anarchy rules. The O.R. supervisor stated to staff members that the travel company stated that the travel nurses could take call every other weekend and one day each week which was a blatant fabrication. Take care of yourself and never take an assignment at this place either, in the O.R.'s or PACU.
