For those of you in Michigan: Final OK given to Siena Heights University nursing program - Adrian, MI - Daily Telegram
The Higher Education Learning Commission of the North Central Association (HLC-NCA) recently granted final approval to Siena Heights University’s Bachelor of Science in Nursing pre-licensure degree program.
Now that the final hurdle in the two-year application process has been cleared, Siena becomes one of 20 fully approved baccalaureate nursing programs in the state of Michigan, according to SHU Director of Nursing Sue Idczak, through a statement.
“At almost every turn, there was a different step that had to be completed,” Idczak said. “It still almost doesn’t seem real. But it is.”
SHU President Sister Peg Albert said the approval is the news for which she had been waiting.
“Getting final approval is the culmination and affirmation of a lot of people’s efforts, including our administration, faculty and staff,” Albert said in a statement.
In February 2008, SHU had its two-year registered nurse to BSN completion degree approved by the HLC-NCA. The first classes started in the fall of 2008. The first RN to BSN graduating class will graduate in May 2010, with the first four-year BSN pre-licensure class slated to graduate in May 2012.
Idczak said the first four-year BSN students will begin their first classes on Jan. 11. Because of the expected demand, Idczak said she anticipates spots in the first class to fill quickly.
