OMG!!! I live in Texas!! This is soooooooo scary!! A patient came to the ER with necrotizing faciitis to the vulva, and one of our OB docs went down to investigate. He said it was happening so quickly, that by the time they got her to surgery, it had already moved up her abdomen. She was in her twenties too. They ended up transferring her to Parkland in Dallas after they had cleaned the wound. Can't imagine what kind of reconstructive surgery she would have needed.
I helped care for a patient that had necrotizing faciitis. All of the affected tissue must be removed, it does not respond to antibiotics.
Probably one of the most interesting things I have ever seen. I helped care for her before and after the skin grafts. The tissue was removed from the knee to the waist on one leg. You could see all the muscles, tendons and bone. Really was amazing.
She was on our unit for over 2 months and recovered nicely.
She is one of my favorite and most memorable patients that I have cared for.
There was a case up near me, also.
