I recently sent a patient down to MRI When he returned his Nicoderm patch was stuck to his chart. I was wondering why the patch had to be removed before the MRI?

Alot of health care professionals are unaware of this fact. Good question to ask!
We had a patient go for an MRI before and came back with a burn under the old patch....noone could figure out why until we were told my our head radiologist that there is high metal contents in some patches which can cause 2nd degree burns if worn into the machine!!!!
