cancelling travel contract due to unforeseen circumstances

I am scheduled to begin a travel assignment in Florida starting Jan 5. 5 days prior to our departure date, my husband fell on the ice outside our house and sustained an open fracure and dislocation of the right femur the requires extensive surgery. He has scheduled dr visits, is going to require physical therapy and possibly further surgeries. Is this considered good cause to cancel the assignment? I have signed all contracts and done all the paperwork required. I really hate to let anyone down, but my husbands health is most important at this time. Anyone know the consequences I could suffer from this? I am so confused.....HELP!!!

You should not have any problem as this is considered serious medical and the company can probably fill the vacancy. Plenty of people have had medical or family issues and need to cancel.
