Hospital or Nursing Home?
Hi everyone, I'm new here! I'm going to be starting my CNA courses soon and I'm starting to research job possibilities in my area. I was wondering which job you would advise straight after getting your certification. Hospital or Nursing Home? Thanks in advance ^.^
It depends, really. Nursing homes are a reality check at times. Yes, I have quite a few who seem to call off weekends, and 'burn out' the good CNA's. Yet, hospitals can be a bit busy, also. You do have less patients in hospitals, but they are sicker.

totally agree with cougarnurse...we don't have the weekend problem though. We have a rule you miss your weekend you automatically have to make up on the next weekends no if ands or butts. keeps people from calling in on the weekend.
the hospital is less people...depending on shortage too. i lose alot of Cna from the nursing home because they are overworked, due to shortage. pt load is harder. but 2nd shift is alot easier than dayshift...what are u wanting to do?
if your looking for a more active..medical atmosphere then do the hospital..you'll have more action
the nursing home isn't near as exciting but it has familiar faces and you kinda become more of the family..
there is also home care too...i have alot of friends that love it thats an option...well theres my 2 cents

most hospitals require 6 months - 1 yr of experience before you can apply. I would recommend working at a nursing home for 6 months and see how you like it. After 6 months you would be eligible to work at most hospitals.
