I like it, mostly.
Ceremonially forging a bond is very powerful. Students committing to supporting each other, their patients and the art of Nursing can only be good. What leaves a bad taste in my mouth is incorporating the school in the ceremony. The focus should be entering the fellowship of nursing not the student body of Marquette University.
I was thinking about why this practice may have fallen out of favor ten years ago and wonder if it had anything to do with that it is religiously based. There are many people gun-shy about going to church. Were I to have anything to do with the planning, I would explore ways to make the service spiritual or at least ecumenical but move away from liturgical. Not compromise the meaning but broaden it a little to make it more contemporary. There will likely be more buy in.
Just a thought.
