During your interview, the adm. will let you know if you can go right into the ICU, if so ask if you can shadow for a few hours during the time you will be there.
Alot of nurses shadow just to get a feel.
Good luck
Hi there, my name is Teresa and I'm a senior nursing student at the University of Portland. I'm recently engaged and will be re-locating to Albuquerque, NM next summer to start my first nursing job-hopefully at UNM-super hopefully in ICU. I will be visiting NM this October 15-21 and was wondering if anyone knows anyone I could shadow-for even a couple hours or ask questions to. I have had all my MedSurg and hope to do my final capstone clinical at UNM too. I just wanted to get a foot in the door. I won't be able to do an actual clinical-cuz I can't arrange for insurance to follow me yet but, just a shadow would be soooo great. I'm so worried about getting into critical care-I'm into high stress and trauma but, nursing school doesn't really teach it. If anyone has 'a friend of a friend' or someone I could get in contact with that would be amazing. I tried going from nursing admin-down to a nurse and... that's just not going to work. Starting with a nurse and going up would be much easier-I just don't know anyone yet!
