Can you believe it? It's the beginning of May already! Hope you all are doing well this morning. The weather is decent at the moment, but I do suspect some rain soon; it seems a bit humid. We'll see.

Re: Thursday, May 1st, 2008

Happy May Day!

We have beautiful sunshine and nice temps (62 degrees at 10:30 AM); this is the kind of day that makes me wish I was a kid again; making May baskets and putting them on the neighbors' doorsteps, ringing the doorbell or knocking on the door and running away! I have great memories of doing that from my childhood; I had my kids do it too when they were young.

As a kid, we would weave the baskets from strips of construction paper, staple a little handle on it and add peanuts, jelly beans and mints. I always managed to put the basket in the wrong spot at old Mrs. Johnsons' house and it would spill over when she opened the door. She would try to see who left it, call out a cheerful "thank you!" and proceed to pick up the candies and take them indoors.

My kids made simple cones out of construction paper with handles, we'd put m&m's and mints in them, and they'd hang them on the doorknobs, ring the bell and run. It was fun to watch them try to hide to see the person open the door and find the treats!

But I haven't heard or seen it done around here since we moved here 15 years ago except by my own kids. Is this a quaint memory that doesn't fit in todays' fast-paced world, or do I just live in a very boring neighborhood?

I've heard of that custom being done, Jen. Wish more would do that.

The temp. has hit 70 so far here, at 11 am. Nice! Spring fever is starting in.
