    Smile Hi :)

    Hi all :cool-nurse:,
I am a new grad from Australia and looking forward to speaking with other nurses about anything. I am currently doing my post grad at a small country hospital which has around 120 beds. We rotate through all the main wards and some specialty areas that we choose. I am amazed at how different each ward has been so far and am enjoying nursing. Most of the nurses are really nice and helpful although you do get the occasional shockers. Look forward to hearing from people.
    Cheers Leanne

    Nice to meet you, Leanne!

So you're from 'Down Under'; I'd love to hear how nursing compares and differs between our countries. I am sure we have many similarities......

So what is your favorite ward thus far? Or can't you choose?

    To your next post.....

    Re: Hi :)

    Hi,
Well I have only worked in medical/paliative, surgical and currently Im in mental health. All of these have been really quite different.
I dont think Im to keen on surgical as I tend to like a bit more continuity of patients.
Our area health service is undergoing funding cuts so we are very short staffed at present and I am picking up extra work on the wards I have worked in - so far I have 95hrs up for the fortnight.
What area of nursing are you in?
    Where do you live?
    Cheers Leanne :crazy1:

Middle of the country, here. I have worked Home Care/LTC alot.

I heard about the funding cuts. In fact, I just posted something about the use of Service Attendents in the Australian Forum.

    Hello Leanne,

Been working subacute rehab for a long time. Lots of hip, knee replacements, back surgeries etc. Though things have been slow lately.

Seems like people are holding off on major surgeries. Not many people can afford to take months off from work or go without a paycheck.

Biding time till things pick up again, just a matter of time.

Do you belong to any nursing associations down there?
