New here, getting ready for entrance test

I'm not yet a student, but hope to be real soon. I take a test on april 3rd to see if I can get accepted. The test is called "Assetts" and I've never heard of it and can't find any info or study guide online. They say it's similar to the GED, which I have lots of books on. How hard is the Entrance test for LVN? I'm in Texas. I'm glad I found this site, I did a search for LVN support forums and was about to think I wasn't going to find one. Rebecca

Hi Becky, i m new here too. I too have reservations about taking the test, however, i am in South Carolina and am taking the NET after spring break next week. I found information at a nearby Books A Million bookstore. It is not the asset test but it is a nursing entrance test study guide that my instructors said would help me perhaps it would help you. The author is Barron and the book is entitled "The Nursing Entrance Exam".

Girl, lets blow this test up!!!!!

Pls let me know how you did

Re: New here, getting ready for entrance test

I just took the ASSET test earlier this month, and I'm slated to take the NET in early April. I was told the same thing by admissions about the test being similar to the GED. I don't know about that, as I never looked at any of those books. What I DO know is this: I studied for the test in the same way you would study to take the SAT or ACT. Keep in mind, I've been out of school for 15 years, and the type of prep I used was incredible. Even though I was nervous before the exam and I kept forgetting formulas, I still managed to score high - one point shy of a full tuition scholarship. So, my advice would be to compare the SAT prep books to the GED prep books. If the material is similar, you're in luck! The English portions of the exam are pretty simple. The numerical portion was pretty simple, just brush up on all your long division! As far as the rest of the math... remember formulas, including formulas for areas and equations of circles, etc. Good luck!

Have you taken the N.E.T. test yet? I am studying from "Study Guide for the NET the Hobet the Help entrance test". This is the book the school told me to get to brush up on. Have you studied from this book or do i need some more books to study from? Any help would be appreciated.

I'm not familiar with the Asset test since it was not required at my school, but I did take and pass the NET (at a rate to secure admission to the nursing school) so I can offer a few tips. Don't rely on any other study guide but the official one for the NET written by the authors of the test. I bought mine at the college library for about $29. It was the perfect preparation for the NET, actually it was a little harder than the actual test so you felt prepared while taking the real thing. Read the study guide carefully, study and do the practice tests using the material in the book and you will be set for the test. If you need additional prep for the math portion, you can use www.math.com - it's not perfect, but has some helpful tutorials and practice to strengthen your math skills. Here's a helpful hint: call the nursing school or the testing facility to find out if the test administered to you includes the "Written Expression" component or is only the "Reading Comprehension" and "Mathematics" portions, since you can cut out some of your study time if you aren't tested on writing. Some schools use all 3 components as entrance testing requirements, others only reading and math. My philosophy is: study only for the test you are taking, because doing more just confuses you!
    Good luck, hope this helps.

Re: New here, getting ready for entrance test

Hi everyone, I started this thread about a year ago. I had something else I wanted to post about and noticed new replys on here. I'm almost DONE with school already. I have about 4 more months to go (August) that is if I make it through this semester which ends in May... Time has gone by so fast... I've got to go and post about an incident that happened at school/clinicals that I need opinions about. Thanks Rebecca
