Good morning! I know--it's Monday, and the weekend went by a little too fast for my liking as usual.

Hope you all are doing ok. I gotta work this afternoon.

Re: Monday, June 1st, 2009

Bright and sunny again here but supposed to have another rainy siege this week so I'm "makin' hay." I got the pool opened, vacuumed and put the solar cover on to get it heated up and going to get the deck furniture out and hosed off. Gonna quit after that to give the shoulder some rest. I think that will constitute enough PT for the day.

Cheers,

R

Good afternoon! It has been a long time since I have logged on. I just graduated from nursing school and I am studying for NCLEX. Hope everyone has a nice day!

Good luck on NCLEX, Raven! I am sure you'll do good. Have you set a date for taking the test yet?

Location San Antonio? My wife & I live in Cibolo. She is an RN at Northeast Methodist Cath Lab Holding. I'm active duty Army RN. Wish you much success on the NCLEX. Where abouts you thinking about getting hired on as an RN in SA?

I already accepted a job offer at University Hospital in the SICU. I just have to pass NCLEX to start working. I haven't received my ATT yet so I have been unable to sign up for a date. But I figured I might as well study until I can take the exam.

Hi Raven,

Graduates generally know the information that's being tested.

Those who don't do well usually succomb because of anxiety. This causes them to rush. They fail to carefully read and understand the questions AND all of the responses before choosing. Finally, listen to your instinct because it's usually right.

Good luck

Thanks! I can say that I have been a little worried. I did the Hurst review for content which was very helpful. I have been doing NCLEX review questions and not scoring as high as I would like. Some of the questions just throw me.

Hi again,

Doing practice exams is a good strategy because a lot of exposure to this style of multiple guess testing will fine tune your ability to analyze the question itself rather than agonize over the inevitable two possible answers. Always go back to the question and make sure you understand what specifically is being asked.

When you're given a lot of information, identify only what you need to answer the question. Sometimes it helps to read through the answer choices first because they will guide you through the information. For example, if you're being asked to select a treatment for a diabetic patient you will read the history provided and pay attention to information about blood sugar results, intake, and level of consciousness and while ultimately important for total care, information about history of COPD, CHF, morning chest xray, CBC, lytes and irritable bowel, will not apply to this particular situation.

Sometimes there are just bad questions, too. Over time in the field of nursing you will see a lot of exams just like the NCLEX and you will look at some of those questions and wonder how they got past the exam reviewers. In the course of 200 questions, you can count on there being a few oddballs but the rest will be manageable.

Hopefully this helps and doesn't make you more nervous.
