at the moment, I am a 27 year old male CNA student. I have simple interests, spending time with my great fiancee Pam. traveling, amuesment parks, My pets a red hypo red Bearded Dragon, and starting into saltwater aquarium setup. (70 gallon up and running, 300 gallon in the garage no water in it yet). I am a tattoo enthusist as well, partly in due to my fiancee being a tattooist and a Gallery shown artist. (although very covered with ink, 98% of it can't be seen with scrubs on.) Currently living in Vero Beach, FL, but originally from Pittsburgh (go Steelers). I am involved in all ranges of activities from going to the the gym to sitting down and playing xbox online with friends and family throughout the country. Nursing plans: get my CNA cert. and then start working, finish what few prereq's I have and then enter into the colleges RN program. at that point hopefully I will have a better grasp as to where I would like to take the courses to specialize in. but RN is definatly a set goal.

Hello Bryan, welcome to the site. Glad to know 98% of your tattoos are covered when wearing scrubs. I miss the days when tattoos in the military were frowned upon. Now, with the Army so desperate for Soldiers skys the limit regards to tattoos. Very unprofessional, IMHO.

To be honest, quite a few of my clients (WW2 Vets) have tattoos, though not as extensive. Each one meant something to them, whether it be a certain port of call, their wife/girlfriend at home, or a buddy who didn't make it. Gives them something to talk about.

FYI, not too many years ago a military recruit had to apply for a waiver regards to quantity, or questionable type tattoos before being allowed in the military. However, with the current Global War on Terrorism some now even get away with gang related tattoos.Originally Posted by cougarnurse

Welcome to the forums Bryan.
For me, never had the urge to get a tattoo, don't seeing that change as I hit 40
I'm all for freedom of expression and individuality. However in a profession that serves the public, promotes an image, tattoos do not add to that image or confidence in a professional.

really the only visable part sticks out..is just past a the sleeve line of my scrubs. and if I were to wear an undershirt or lab coat, you wouldn't see any. I enjoy them in my personal life, but realize professionaly they can hurt you, so I have kept them all able to be covered. the Professor teaching my CNA class told me that is nothing I should worry about, its not distracting and can be covered, which I will have to do for clinicals.
