I'm not a woman but I'll tell you right now that being a nurse sure doesn't help keep the weight down. You're doing a lot of running, and busy all the time, but there's always food at the nurses station...and drinks as well.

it's the not getting a decent meal but the hit and run on the junk that is around. I think it's especially harder on night shift when in general there is less staff, lunch rooms are closed so more junk like chips and cookies are brought in so more on the go eating then at home if you can't sleep you eat and you get your schedule all screwed up.

I have to agree. Just yesterday a man brought in some fat pills (doughnuts). Nurses kept running in and out of the break room eating doughnuts. Some areas of nursing are so fast pase that even though you get a lunch break, Nurses have a need to be marters and not take their breaks, just snak on junk. I also feel that since nursing is such a stressfull job we tend to comfort our-selfs in food.

I myself had a peroud of weight gain, but put my mind to it and lost 20 lb. I stay away from fat pills

I used to work night shift in a hospital and we ate so much junk. It was a small town, the cafeteria was closed and if we were hungry it was either get something from the machines or have someone (usually our faithful janitor who loved to eat) run to the Huddle House (like Waffle House) for some greasy, fat food. It's really silly, considering that nurses, doctors and aides advise patients on healthy eating habits every day. You would think that the break room would be full of fruits, etc. But nobody wants that stuff. Wouldn't it be great if a banana tasted like Krispy Kreme?!

I see the words krispy Kreme, and I become Pavlaws dog. I have eaten so much chicken to lose my weight, I think I am about to lay an egg. I think what up set me most is I went healthy and my cholesterol and triglicerides went way up.
I think my body is rebelling, NEED PIZZA!!!!!!!!!

When I did Atkins my labs improved (they were good to start with) but that Pizza sure does sound good. Have you tried the philly cheese steak pizza from Dominos??? YUMMY. My DH and son just fixed a totinos and I told them no I didn't want any (it's bedtime) but maybe just a piece now that you mention it LOL. The Atkins will start again on Monday. (I'm going to Chicago on Thursday with the girls to an Avon convention so can't start the diet again before then)

I have a bright idea no food in the lounge. Actually this in my first time in your sight and am probably entering the wrong chat. But here goes. The College Network has put forth a LPN to BSN program with no clinical. Someone please explan how I can write for the boards with out clinical and who would hire a BSN that holds not license. Am I missing something.

I wouldn't be surprised that many could pass NCLEX after reading a couple of good books.. Especially, an LPN..The rest of your sentence baffles me so could you please re-phrase it??

I agree that nursing is one of the jobs that somehow produces weight gain. Overating begins from nursing school when you spend a lot of time studying and basically not being active physically...it gets boring so what do we do usually to feel better when we are stuck in our seats? We eat. This coping mechanism persists when we get a job as a nurse and we feel tired, stressed out, sometimes anxious. I think eating makes us feel good and it works fast...that is one reason it is so hard to avoid.
