| Demand and diversity The demand of Texas Teachers refers to the number of teachers that school districts in the state are willing to employ at a given time. Traditional models of Texas teacher supply and demand are primarily based on trends in student/teacher ratios and projections of student enrollment. Current research expands the traditional model with variables related to teacher quality such as qualifications and tested ability. ‘Teacher diversity’ is a topic that is often discussed in the Texas Teachers circles. Teacher diversity is a school quality characteristic, i.e. a characteristic group of teachers rather than individual teachers. It explores the diversity of the Texas teaching force in relation to race or ethnicity and gender. Manu diversity issues would seem to apply equally to discussions of racial and ethnic diversity and gender diversity. Research in teacher diversity, however, seldom spans both facets. Issues surrounding the racial and ethnic makeup of the Texas teaching force are generally explored as part of the broader topic of multicultural education. Multicultural education focuses on the need for greater cultural responsiveness by schools to foster intercultural understanding, support improved performance by minority students and prepare all students to function effectively in a diverse society. Increasing the number of minority teachers is advocated as one strategy to increase cultural responsiveness of schools. |

| aKa MagRedC5 | Well, maybe we need more nursing instructors in response to the nursing shortage. Furthermore, more male nursing instructors would be advantangeous in several regards, IMHO. Andrei19, ... just thought I'd relate your interesting original topic to nursing. Nonetheless, I enjoyed your original topic and hope others comment to same, or my related thoughts, too.
