| Hi I'd like to discuss benzodiazepines; namely Lorazepam, diazepam, and clonazepam and your/our and our patients experiences with them. Benzodiazepines are the most prescribed drugs from doctors; do you think this is a good trend? Have you ever had any experience with negative effects on patients? |

| ****o, I am new to this site. This is my first reply. I actually did see an adverse reaction to benzodiazepines just last week. I was doing my preceptorship in the ER and an 1 1/2 year-old child was brought in by a relative because he had ingested 4 Valiums. A friend of the family had left them on the kitchen table and the baby put them in his mouth and swallowed all of them. There were obviously a lot of family issues and dynamics going on in this household, however the relative acted fast and got the child into the ER within 25 minutes of him ingesting the pills. Our ER physician had to give him several doses of Romazicon and he was shipped to a bigger hospital in the area via ambulance. They say these are controlled substances, yet how does someone with such bad judgment (friend of the family) get a hold of these pills? Sure, maybe they were prescription, but still why did this person lay 4 of them on the table so a baby could get a hold of them? Benzo's are good for a lot of people, but this situation was very unfortunate. |
