change of state nursing license

I hold a NY State LPN license & have recently re-located to Florida. Can someone advise me how I go about obtaining a Florida license so that I can work here?
Thanks!

thanks for registering here Fran. You might try this link to the Florida board of nursing and see if this will be of assistance.

Re: change of state nursing license

You find the Florida state board of nursing address or web site and ask them if Florida gived reciprocity to the state of New York if so they tell you what the fees are to recieve your Florida license. If not you will have to take the Florida state boards again. Most of the time they do grant reciprocity.

Re: change of state nursing license

Just to let you know, reciprocity is a thing of the past. With the stanadardized NCLEX, you have to contact each BON for an application for that state's license. Hope that helps.

Don't forget, you may need Continuing Ed. for some states, and to keep up your original license.

Re: change of state nursing license

I wanted to start up some discussion about obtaining a Florida RN license. I am an RN in NC and will be moving to Fla. The Fla BON site looks like the process is overwhelming. Has anyone done this and how was the experience? How long did it take? Thanks

It took 4 weeks from the day I mailed everything, for my Florida License. and yes it appears overwhelming. SO, over a course of 3 days, I would complete 1 of the req. documents then the 4th went to my local police dept and got fingerprinted....
This way I did not feel OVERWHELMED.

What do you mean by completeing just one of the documents and the 4th to the police station?

I assume you got all your docs to them within 3 days and on the 4th day you sent in your fingerprint card?
My goal is to have it by the first of the year. I hope to have it all in the mail by the end of this week.
Was there any communication with the board during the 4 weeks?

Re: change of state nursing license

What I meant is that the application had lots to fill out.
like the initial application to Florida, then another form to fill out and sent to your college and another form to send to your state board of nursing and a finger print card. SO, every day I filled out each part of the app. then reviewed everything and mailed it out, got it the 4th week and No I did not call the board... Just followed the directions........ to a T
Don't get all flustered.. it's not that big of a deal.
My finger prints were done at my local police dept. on the fingerprint card that came in the Fl. application
