What rules have you broken for patients?

I had a patient who I knew was going to die. She had a cat that she adored and had found 15 years earlier when he was just a tiny little kitten. I told her husband to go get the cat and we surprised her with it one night. It was nice to see her face light up as she held the cat for about 20 minutes. We also brought a dog in when it wasn't against the rules. The dog left happy and the man died later that night peacefully.
I also snuck in a couple of kids to have a pizza party with Grandma. She died a couple of days later and I got a note from those kids that makes me cry to this day "thanks for letting us have pizza with Gramma before she died".
So what have you done to make a patient's life a little nicer?

I know...the thread is old, but worth bumping up the chain. One rule I've broken is giving water to a resident in ESRD. Heck, the resident was dying, he knew it, I knew it.......
