Hi all just wanted to know what made you decide to become a nurse.Looking forward to your replies. As for me i wanted to be a nurse from the time i was about 7.I would always pretend my dolls had several injuries and i would put plasters on them, give them injections, with real needles too cause my dad was doing first aid at the time and he had lots so i would sneak them away and play with them, and i would nurse them back to health.I think nursing is a very rewarding career. It makes you feel good about yourself knowing that you are able to help someone else who needs it.Could go on and on but will stop here and await your replies.Hope to hear from you soon.

Re: What Made You Be A Nurse? I didnt relize nursing was my calling until I was about 25. I had left college to get married, which ended in divorce. And I found myself without a career. My Mom encouraged my start taking some nursing classes at the local college. After the first day of classes I knew it was for me. I went to nursing school, became a RN. Everything after that is history, I love my job and I love helping people.

Re: What Made You Be A Nurse? I am similar to you, tigrees, I wanted to be one since I was very little. I have an older brother and he always seemed to be hurting himself, and I would watch my mom fix up his knees and elbows and make him feel better and it was always there-- wanting to help people feel better when they are in pain.

Re: What Made You Be A Nurse? I'm afraid my reason is of a less noble nature. Nursing afforded me the chance to earn decent living after only 2 years of school(as an LPN). I wanted to be an engineer but could not afford it. Helping folks is a wonderful thing, don't get me wrong. But after working as a nurse for more than 8 years I still find myself wishing I had done something else. Sorry for being a bummer. By the way, my co-workers think I am good nurse.....

Hi thanks for your replies. To ihip i say if your not fulfilled as a nurse why not try going after your dream. It may not pay as much but i am optamistic you'll survive. So go for it.If it doesn't work out you can always go back to nursing later. You wont know until you've at least tried right?I always wanted to be a nurse but it was difficult for me to get there.I started out with no qualifications.I worked all kinds of places, from garment factories to restaurants.I loved all my jobs but i wasn't satisfied my passion was with nursing. So i decided i will pursue my dream and be a nurse if its the last thing i do and here i am today.Waiting for my acceptance letter which if i dont get this year i know definitely next year.Well best of luck to you. ![]()

Re: What Made You Be A Nurse? as most little girls for the late 60's early 70's I'd thought nursing and teaching. When I got to highschool I was going to be an accountant. I had a boyfriend who was older then me and worked in a local factory (GE) and mad better money then my father the teacher and when my parents wouldn't pay for me to go to college at Vanderbuilt of FLA only someplace with in state fees I said well fine then I won't go anywhere my boyfriend makes good money and didn't go so I got a job at a factory made good money, broke up with that boyfriend, hated the factory so started school locally while still at the factory and was going for accounting. Then I married someone else who worked at that factory...now the nursing part. I was 20 and having my first child in mid July and it was the hottest summer ever and no air conditioner in the factory (worked till the day before I had her doing heavy work) when I saw people in the nursery rocking the babies I said well I can do that all they do is rock babies.....a couple of years and 2 more summer kids later the factory was going to some computerized things and everyone had to take all day long tests to see what training would have to be done...I was done with the test each day in about an hour....some people never got done and it was basic stuff so the college that was doing the testing told me I should be doing something else I said I know and mentioned it to my parents and dad still had the money he'd saved for my going to college so I started the basics at night and 2 years later started the nursing program and graduated as outstanding nursing student...had a 1, 2, & 3 yr old when I started so know it can be done with little kids and bills. Finished BSN right away after boards. Since then got divorced and remarried and had another child I work full time at one hospital L&D, per diem at another L&D and teach L&D, peds clinicals and sell Avon presidents club level (over 10,000 per year) and sell Cookie Lee jewelry....kids are now 7, 19, 20 & 22....and I can hold babies and give them back...among other things LOL
