Trying to get into a Nursing program

Hi everyone,
I am newbie at this. Am 19 yrs old, a sophomore majoring in Biology at the moment. I decided that I want to get a BSN in Nursing this year but my Universtiy doesn't offer the program so I was thinking of transfering to a college that does. I am still taking my prerequisites and most of them apply to nursing prereqs but am wondering what my chances of acceptance into the program were?

Re: Trying to get into a Nursing program

I'd start looking and applying sooner rather than later. With the nursing shortage and guaranteed employment at above average salary available, more people want to get into nursing these days.

Most colleges are turning qualified nursing students away because they don't have enough seats. The average age of nursing instructors is 53 or so, and they'll be retiring in large numbers.

Lot's of students, not many teachers is leading to long waiting lists at nursing schools and lots of students being turned away.

So check in your area, ask about waiting lists and apply as soon as you can if that is what you really want to do.

It would be helpful to talk to a few nurses if you know any. Many are ambivalent about recommending nursing these days.

It pays well, but you work your tail off for the money. Don't let anyone kid you into thinking it is a cake job. It's a lot like plumbing. You make good money, but you also stick your hands in places most people don't want to know about.
