happiness does come within but if you work in a toxic enviroment it's hard. as i've said in other posts i've worked in some mentally unhealthy psych hosp. imagine how hard it is to be happy in an enviroment where there's war. that's why your loved one needs to get out of that enviroment. there are all sorts of different lifestyles where you don't need lots of money - amish, commune, third world country, inhospitalble ecosystem, etc. i'm not going to feel sorry for someone who is unhappy in their enviroment and stays. stays for what?

you were born in 1968. remember that claymation movie cbs would always play at christmas about rudolph? rudolph was being made fun of because of his red nose then there was the elf who didn't want to make toys but be a dentist. they took off together (during a snow storm i think) in the middle of the night. they were going to find a better place. the place they were in just wasn't working for them. they were going into the unknown but they had had enough and were willing to try anything. what a great movie. what a great movie for kids. think of all the things your kids will learn if you go off into the unkown to find something better. what do your kids learn when you settle for something that makes you so unhappy? do they learn to settle for what makes them unhappy? did your parents settle for what made them unhappy?

When I was a kid that was one of my all time favorite Christmas specials. Ah... those were the days. You are right about that movie teaching a valuable lesson. No one should settle or be forced to settle with something that makes them unhappy. As a RN there are so many options available to us. I can't understand why a person would remain in a job that makes them so bloody miserable. It makes no sense to me.
