    Paid Time Off

    I'm just wondering how many of you work for hospitals that implement PTO?? My current full-time permanent hospital has begun this system and we feel like we are being screwed big time.

    Also, have ya'll heard about the new overtime bill that is supposed to be up for voting soon in congress???

    my hospital has been with the PTO (ours is PDO) for at least 11 years. We get no holiday, birthday, vacation time but the PDO. I like it myself the way ours is set up.

    There is a formula for getting PDO. part-time and full-time have a different scale. Then you get a different percent of PDO for hours worked per pay. PDO is earned on all hours worked. I have about 100 hours in the bank right now. I use my hours too. I've worked here for 12 years.

    We can use our hours for whatever reason we want whenever we want. If you need 4 hours off for MD appt or something you can schedule it. I know lots of people who have 400 hours in the bank because they don't take anytime off (for some reason)
    My boss will schedule me when I ask work sun-tues, off wed-tues, 3 days PDO (36hours)then 4 more off.
    The bad thing when we went to PDO is they took sick time so we don't earn that but every year in Dec you can "trade in" PDO 1-2 for sicktime so if I turn in 40 hours sick time they put 80 hours in the bank. You can also put PDO in the "bank" in Dec then anytime in the next year you can ask to be paid from the bank. I usually put 40 hours in the bank then at vacation or x-mas time I take money out instead of using them for days off. If you don't use banked hours after a year they pay you for them.

    I've worked several places that have some type of accrued time off (PTO-paid time off) or some other name.
    Personnally I like it. One place I worked, we had sick days 12/yr, but if you took 7 you were on probation. Now if you have PTO, you can use the time for anything you want to. If you don't get sick...you take more vacation. If your kids are sick....you just call in.
    It usually works out to be at least equal to or better than a combination of vacation, sick, personal days etc.

    We earn PTO based on a formula applied to the hours we work, and after a year, I have earned approxiamtely 180 hours. There is a cap of 500, where you have to start using before you can earn anymore. Also, we can only take up to 72 hours (2 weeks) off without any more authorization; if you want to take more at one time, you have to turn in a reason, get it approved, blah, blah, blah.
    It's nice to be able to use small amounts for kids being sick, dr appts, etc.

    We have PTO. It is a formula based on hours worked. Frankly, it seems as if my time accrual is quick. Plus with working 3 12's, I don't have to take much time off.
