Question about chemistry in nursing school

How intensive is chemistry study in nursing school? I haven't had a science class since college many years ago, should I sign up for chemistry at my local community college as a refresher course? I remember basic things like protons, neutrons, electrons, the periodic table of elements, etc. Not sure how intensive things get in nursing school though.

Re: Question about chemistry in nursing school

It all depends on whether or not your school requires you to take Gen Chem, or a Survey Course. As a chemist, I can tell you that for Gen Chem I, you will need to know your math, as you will be doing things like calculating formula mass, products of reactions(quantitative), and using Factor Label Method in almost everything you do.

Alot of nursing programs in the US require General Chemistry I because it teaches a student factor label method, which is an important skill that needs to be learned in order to properly dose up medications. Moreover, the student is made familiar with the scientific method as well as exposed to the art of being precise.

Study, Study, Study.

How intensive is chemistry? LOL! Most BSN programs require as a prereq Chem 1&2. IMHO, make sure your algebra skills are tuned up. I did not like Chem at all, even though scored an A. Just another hoop to jump thru.

Not to scare you, but some BSN programs require BioChem. Mine did. Take advantage of tutoring if available. It should be!

I am sure you'll do fine. You remember basics, and that would be a plus. The teacher will help, too.
