Re: Potential Nursing Student (questions)

I agree with what everybody is saying. Nursing is NOT a field for everybody. It involves a lot of hard work (and not all glorious hard work, its not like what you see on TV), work that you often don't get thanked for and could possibly get sued over. I think that you will be unhappy if you just go into it for the money, becuase the money isn't worth what you have to do and what you put on the line every time you work. You have people's lives in your hands every day at work.

Its hard work, great work don't get me wrong. I can't imagine doing anything else. But its hard, both mentall and physically. And if you are going to work in a hospital you need to be able to work under high stress situations. And be a people person and have good communication and teamwork skills.

And nursing school is no picnic either. Get ready to lose your social life. Nursing has many different options, not just hospital work. But you'll need the education (Bachelors if not Masters) for most work outside of the hospital.

Does your community and/or hospitals offer any shadowing opportunities so you can get a better idea of the "day to day activites of a nurse."

Whatever you decide, don't decide because its what your mom wants, she's not going to be the one to work your job for you. Its something YOU have to do, because you are going ot have to do it day in and day out for a very long time! Best of luck though!!
