| Junior Member | Hi, just a couple of questions please?: 1) I was a CNA a long time ago. Is there a refresher course I can do to get licensed again? I've been in the medical field in pharmacy since then and, 2) Because of my medical training thus far, I am thinking of a vocational school for LVN so it won't take that long. How is vocational school looked upon versus community/4-yr college? Thanks in advance... |

| Super Moderator | Re: Potential new student Hi, I'd contact the state board of nursing in your state to find out if they'll let you re-activate your license. Sometimes they'll let you go a few years. If not you may need to take the course again. Haven't heard of any CNA refreshers but you can check here: Caregiver Jobs Clearinghouse:"Welcome to the Caregiver Jobs Clearinghouse. We are pleased to team up with the U.S. Department of Labor and organizations representing some of America's industries most affected by the recent economic downturn and the events of September 11th to present this new employment resource for those recently unemployed." 1-877-US2JOBS http://www.carecareers.net/ Direct Care Alliance:"Nationwide, we face a critical shortage of high-quality direct-care workers — home health aides, certified nursing assistants, and personal care attendants — who can meet the needs of our country's long-term care consumers — people who are elderly, chronically ill, or living with disabilities. Direct-care workers provide the vast majority of hands-on care within our long-term care health system. Consumers rely on these workers to provide them with comfort, companionship, and care in an atmosphere that preserves their dignity and well-being. As a result, consumers consistently cite the quality of their relationship with their paraprofessional workers as a primary determinant of their quality of life." Direct Care Alliance c/o Paraprofessional Healthcare Institute 349 East 149th Street, 10th Floor- Bronx, NY 10451 Phone: 718.402.7766 - Fax: 718.585.6852 email: info@directcarealliance.org http://www.directcarealliance.org/ Most places will hire you and train you on the job straight from highschool if you're enrolled in a CNA program and waiting to take the test. Hope that helps, Andrew Lopez, RN http://www.nursefriendly.com/cna |
