I work in peds, so my reference may be different, but I find that no matter how difficult the patient, their family is always one step worse. For starters, they're all in the same gene pool, so they all act the same. The patient is usually too sick to do much, so the family takes over and multiplies the craziness. I think what helps is to think of the whole family as patients, not just the patient. That keeps me in the right frame of mind.

You are right there. I used to work peds. One of the worst was a mom who would yell and scream and the dad would sit in the corner and not say a word and just stare at you...the old pediatrician said she's just crazy but he will kill you 2 of the worst families in town then they breed. (the baby did go to foster care and she did get him back for 1 day but was beating him in the bank in front of a policeman when he was about 4 because he wouldn't listen to her)
