    Your Best Cry

This may sound strange, but my favorite cry was after an adult code. I only had <1year in er. We had two codes in the ER going at one time. I was running one of them and the doctor was in another room. Well the dr gave me that code to run because he was just about DOA. I finally got the doc in there to pronounce, then he asked me to talk to the family. He was still in the other code. Well I went into the family room and there sat this little old lady that I knew well from taking care of every member of her family. I say down and looked at her and broke down crying. The little old lady put her arms around me and said, "It's OK I know he is dead."

Here this poor old lady's husbands dead and I burst into tears trying to tell her. That is too funny now. I learned later she was relieved he had died. I found out he was vary abusive to her and she was scared to death of him.

I don't know I"ve had a best one because of a death being I've work mostly peds/ob it's only been babies and it's awful especially the 37 weekers that were fine.
Right now there is a co-worker who at 14 weeks (after 3 miscarriages) had some rectal bleeding (24 yrs old) has stage 4 colon CA. She has a colostomy now & is about 30 weeks now I can hardly take care of her and she's so cheerful.

My best cry was the little old lady who gave me so much grief. We'd have our battles on and off, but really came to appreciate each other after a while.

When she'd come up early for her meds (instead of me heading back at 9), I knew something was not right. She'd stated she wanted to make things a bit easier that night. She was asleep by 9:15, but I did note that she'd had changes in condition the next hour. I told the oncoming nurse, and danged if my little old lady didn't die on 11-7. I at least got to tell her goodbye and all.

I don't know if I could cry for a client's death. But my baby brother walked up to me and asked what should I do for a pounding heart. I said just go and sit down and take really deep breaths. He said can I just sit right here and breath? Yea. He walked back pass me. I sent my son to check on him and he said he is just sitting there. Minutes later I sent his son to check on him, when he returned he said auntie he is on the ground face down. I ran to him. He was face down, he had unine soaked paints. I tried to revive him. Bear mouth resusitation. He was morbidly over weight. He vomited in my mouth. He died. I cried, and cried and cursed god and cried some more. I always replay that night and ask, what if I had done it differently.
