| Nursing Uniforms I recently took a job in which I do assessments in the home of elderly citizens. I had done this same line of work before and wore a uniform. Basically, plain color uniform pants, and a warmup scrub jacket. When I did this line of work before, over the course of a year I asked the elderly if they liked me to come in a uniform or in regular clothes. The general census was that they preferred the uniform because they felt they had their own nurse who know was looking out for them. So, I started to wear a uniform everyday. Now, I take the new job due to relocating and I"m told 3 weeks after I have been wearing uniforms, that I don't look professional and I just have to wear pants and a nice sweater. The rationale they gave was they didn't want other people in the office wearing a scrub uniform. I told them that I wasn't happy about that because I had just purchased $200.00 in uniforms that I had already washed and ironed so I couldn't return them. They basically came back with well, wear your uniform pants with a sweater. Now that is professional half of a uniform! All of this coming from someone who was wearing a ratty old sweatshirt with the company logo on it. I've decided to resign from the position because of the fact that I was told I would be serving one area of a county and now I'm all over the place...driving about 140 miles per day to see the elderly. I wanted your take on what you think of wearing a uniform to do assessments on the elderly in their home. My thought was the elderly liked them and I looked like a professional nurse not like a clone of the rest of the staff that wasn't nurses. Your opinions are appreciated |

| Re: Nursing Uniforms i agree uniforms should be worn, not only do they look professional, they are genrally cleaner (than a jumper) and protect you clothes against the inevitable stretches from elderlypeople in care homes grabbing hold of you. |
