Nursing Refresher Courses

I am an RN who has done administration and supervision for many years. Recently I returned to the hospital and I am working on a Med/Surg unit; needless to say, I seem to have forgotten more than I ever learned and I feel totally inadequate! I have tried to find any online refresher courses but the only ones I have seen involve attending a clinical component. I am really interested in learning my "facts" again and attempting to get the clinical experience on an "as available" basis at my current job. Are you aware of any programs that are comprehensive but only involve information? If so, I would appreciate your sharing them with me. Thank you!

All refresher courses that I know of have a clinical component by virtue of what employers need. There's a list on http://www.nursefriendly.com/refresher

Your best bet would be to research/do continuing education on specific topics as you come across them. If you go to the Nursing Spectrum website, http://www.nursingspectrum.com they offer unlimited CEUs for like $29.99/year. That type of deal may help as they cover a large number of clinical topics.

You could also do some self-evaluation by getting some NCLEX review books and going through questions. If you don't know the answer or don't recognize the terms, you'll know you need more "refreshing" in that area. Sitting down with questions, a drug book and nursing text will probably help a great deal.

Hope that helps.

Sincerely,

Andrew Lopez, RN
